How Much Do New Windows Cost in Glasgow? (2026 Honest Price Guide)

- 16 June 2026
- News
If you’ve started looking into new windows for your Glasgow home, you’ve probably already noticed that getting a straight answer on price is harder than it should be. Most guides are vague, most quotes vary wildly, and it’s rarely clear what’s actually included.
This guide changes that. As a manufacturer and installer based in Clydebank — making our own windows and doors on-site since 1996 — we’re going to give you honest, realistic pricing for Glasgow in 2026, explain exactly what drives costs up or down, and help you compare quotes properly when you get them.
| 💡 This is not a guide designed to get you to spend more. It’s designed to help you understand what you’re actually paying for — and why two quotes for the same job can differ by thousands of pounds. |

What’s Included in a Williams Windows Quote
Before you compare quotes from different companies, you need to know what’s actually included. Not all quotes cover the same things, and a lower headline price can quickly become a more expensive job once extras are added.
Every Williams Windows & Doors quote includes:
- Full survey and measurement by a qualified surveyor
- Custom manufacture of your windows at our Clydebank factory
- Professional installation by our own fitters
- Removal and disposal of your old frames
- Full internal and external finishing and silicone sealing (unless specified otherwise)
- FENSA certification for building regulations compliance
- 10-year guarantee on all products as standard*
- VAT at 20% (standard rate — included in all our quotes)
*coloured composite door slabs carry a 5yr guarantee as standard
Things that are sometimes not included in competitor quotes — and worth checking:
- Disposal of old frames and glass
- Internal plastering or making-good if required
- FENSA registration (legally required — some companies charge separately)
- VAT (check whether quoted prices are ex-VAT or inclusive)
Why Manufactured-in-House Pricing Is Different
Most window companies in Glasgow are installers, not manufacturers. They buy their frames from a national fabricator, add a margin, and sell to you. That’s a perfectly legitimate model — but it adds a step in the chain.
Williams Windows & Doors fabricates everything in our own factory in Clydebank. That means:
- No intermediary margin between factory and customer
- Tighter quality control — every frame is checked before it leaves our premises
- Faster lead times — we’re not dependent on a third-party supplier’s schedule
- Greater flexibility on bespoke sizes, colours, and specifications
| ✅ This is why our pricing is often competitive with installers-only companies despite manufacturing ourselves — we’ve removed the middleman. You’re buying direct from the people who made your windows. |
What Affects the Cost of New Windows in Glasgow
Two houses on the same street can get very different quotes. Here’s why:
1. Frame Material
uPVC is the most affordable and most popular choice in Glasgow. It performs well thermally, requires very little maintenance, and is available in a wide range of colours and finishes — including realistic woodgrain effects.
Aluminium costs more but offers slimmer sightlines, a longer lifespan (40–50 years versus 20–25 for uPVC), and a more contemporary look that suits modern extensions, larger glazed areas, and architectural properties.
2. Window Style
Casement windows are the simplest and most cost-effective. Tilt & turn, sash & case and bay and bow windows all involve additional complexity — more components, more precise installation, and in the case of bay and bow, structural considerations.
3. Size
Larger windows use more material and require more care during installation. A standard bedroom casement and a floor-to-ceiling living room window are very different propositions even if they’re the same style.
4. Glazing Specification
Our standard specification achieves a 1.2 W/m²K U-value using uPVC thermal inserts and ClimaGuard® A+ thermal glass — one of the best performing standard packages available. Options that add cost include:
- Acoustic glass — reduces noise transmission, popular near busy roads or airports
- Triple glazing — further improves thermal performance, adds around 20–30% to unit cost
- Laminated or toughened glass — required in certain locations by building regulations
- Integral blinds — sealed inside the unit, no cleaning required
5. Colour and Finish
Standard white uPVC is the most affordable. Coloured foils (anthracite grey, chartwell green, black, etc.) add a modest premium. Full RAL colour matching on aluminium frames commands the highest premium due to the powder-coating process.
6. Access and Installation Complexity
Ground-floor windows are straightforward. High-level or difficult-access windows may require scaffolding, which adds cost. Older properties can also present challenges — out-of-square openings, non-standard reveals, or crumbling lintels can all add time to an installation.
7. Number of Windows
Replacing all windows in one go is more cost-effective per window than doing them one at a time. The survey, installation team, and disposal are fixed costs that get spread across more units.
uPVC vs Aluminium: Which is Right for Your Glasgow Home?
Factor | uPVC | Aluminium |
Cost | Lower | 25–50% more than uPVC |
Lifespan | 20–25 years | 40–50 years |
Thermal Performance | Excellent (1.2 U-value standard) | Excellent with thermal break |
Frame Depth | Wider sightlines | Slimmer, more glass visible |
Colours | Wide range, woodgrain available | Full RAL range, powder-coated |
Best for | Most Glasgow homes, any style | Modern extensions, large spans, contemporary homes |
Maintenance | Very low | Very low |
For the vast majority of Glasgow homes, uPVC is the right choice — it offers outstanding performance at the best price. Aluminium makes strong sense for larger glazed areas, extensions, or where a slimmer, more architectural look is the priority.
Is There Any Funding Available for New Windows in Scotland?
This is one of the most common questions we’re asked, and the honest answer is: it depends on your situation and the glazing you currently have.
Home Energy Scotland — Interest-Free Loans for Single Glazing
If your home currently has single-glazed windows, you may be eligible for an interest-free loan of up to £8,000 (£9,500 in remote or rural areas) through the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan scheme, funded by the Scottish Government.
| ⚠️ Important: Home Energy Scotland funding for glazing is only available if you are upgrading from single glazing to double or triple glazing. It is not available for replacing existing double glazing with newer double glazing, even if your current units are old or failed. |
To find out if you’re eligible, use the Home Energy Scotland self-assessment tool at homeenergyscotland.org or call them free on 0808 808 2282.
Warmer Homes Scotland — Free Improvements for Eligible Households
Warmer Homes Scotland provides free energy efficiency improvements to homeowners who are vulnerable to fuel poverty. This is the most generous scheme available in Scotland and has no cap on the value of work per household. You may qualify if you receive Pension Credit, Universal Credit, or other means-tested benefits.
A Note on VAT
Standard window replacement on an occupied residential property is subject to VAT at 20% — the standard rate. The 5% reduced rate that applies to some building work (such as conversions of empty properties or non-residential buildings) does not apply to routine window replacement. You may see some companies in the market claiming 5% VAT on residential window installation — this is incorrect. All Williams Windows & Doors quotes are inclusive of VAT at 20%, and we show this clearly on every quote we issue.
How to Compare Window Quotes Properly
Getting three quotes is standard advice — but only useful if you’re comparing like for like. Here’s what to check:
- Are prices inclusive or exclusive of VAT?
- Is removal and disposal of old frames included?
- Is FENSA registration included?
- What U-value does the glazing achieve? (Lower is better — ask for it in writing) Building Standards demand 1.4 W/m²K minimum.
- Is the company a manufacturer or a reseller?
- Who will actually do the installation — employed fitters or subcontractors?
- What guarantee is offered, and is it insurance-backed?
- Are they FENSA registered? (Check at fensa.org.uk)
| ⚠️ A quote that looks £500 cheaper may not include disposal, FENSA registration, or VAT — which can easily add that £500 back and more. Always ask for a fully itemised quote. |
How Long Does Installation Take?
Job Size | Typical Duration | Notes |
1–3 windows | Half to 1 Day | Standard residential repair/upgrade |
4–8 windows | 1–2 days | Most 2-bed replacements |
Full house (10–14 windows) | 2–3 days | Depends on access and complexity |
Bay or bow window | 1 day additional | Structural care required |
Our fitters work methodically through the property room by room, ensuring each window is fully finished — sealed inside and out, handles tested, and cleaned — before moving to the next. We don’t leave a job until you’ve confirmed you’re happy.
