What is the life expectancy of aluminium windows and doors?
Our contemporary aluminium window frames can last up to 30 years thanks to hardwearing materials and modern manufacturing methods. They can last up to 10 years longer than traditional uPVC window frames.
Can aluminium windows be energy efficient?
Aluminium frame windows can be energy-efficient. While aluminium is not known for being an insulative material, our thermal break technology creates a barrier between warm air inside and cool air outside. This means that our windows are capable of reaching a Window Energy Rating of B as a minimum, all the way up to A+, depending on the product you choose.
What colour options are available in aluminium?
All products in our aluminium range come with stock colours – black, white, grey and grey-on-white. You can also choose single or dual KL or RAL colours for a more varied palette, including hundreds of different shades.
What are trickle vents, and do I need them?
Trickle vents are a helpful feature of made to measure aluminium bifold doors that manage airflow. These are background ventilators that are fitted within door frames to allow a continuous flow of air, even when the doors are closed.
You can open and close these slits as you wish, but for maximum ventilation without heat loss, they should be kept open at all times.
As modern homes become more airtight, these regulations help to maintain indoor air quality, reducing the risk of mould from moisture buildup.
To maximise ventilation in your property without heat loss, we would recommend adding trickle vents to your design.
Would you ever recommend aluminium instead of uPVC?
We would never recommend a uPVC Bi-Fold. Whilst they are available, we believe strongly that any bi-fold should be alunimium.
Do aluminium doors have any advantages over uPVC?
Aluminium outside doors are better than uPVC for quality, durability and looks. While uPVC is cheaper, it does not last as long as aluminium and may not withstand extreme weather conditions or intrusion attempts. Our aluminium doors are manufactured with security and energy efficiency in mind, complying with BS4873/PAS24 for added protection. They also use ‘thermal break’ technology.
While aluminium is generally a conductive material, these ‘thermal breaks’ help to create gaps between warm air inside and cold air outside, saving you money on energy bills. Finally, aluminium is generally slimmer and more compact, allowing for larger panes of glass to maximise natural light.
